No. 7 Montague Street stands within what were once the spacious grounds of Montagu House, a vast mansion in Great Russell Street constructed about 1680 by the rascally Ralph, first Duke of Montague of Beaulieu. The nucleus of this mansion still stands, largely rebuilt and enlarged, as the British Museum. The 18th Century d?cor, traditional quality furniture and period art brings warmth to the lounge, creating the ambience of a bygone era and the atmosphere of a much loved house. As well as relaxing with the daily newspapers guests are invited to enjoy books and magazines from our extensive library. Stepping into the walled garden, which overlooks the British Museum, guests can enjoy morning coffee, afternoon tea and light meals during the summer.
