Hotel Mecenate Palace Hotel in Rome - Italy

The name Mecenate has in time become a synonym of 'talent scout' and patron of the artists. The Hotel was named after him because it was right here on the Esquiline Hill that Mecenate lived, surrounded by his poet, writer, mime, actor and musician friends. Mecenate was as well as Augustus' most intimate and authoritative political adviser. At times he substituted the Emperor himself, although he always refused to accept any official type of assignement or title. But Mecenate was primarily an exceptional promoter of culture. Poets such as Virgil, Horacious, and Propertius were a part of his circle. Mecenate was a patron, a generous benefactor and an inspiration to all. Without him, Latin literature and our culture in general would have been a lot poorer. The Mecenate Palace Hotel comprises two adjacent buildings: the one by Rinaldi overlooking Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore dates from 1887; the other on via Carlo Alberto was built a few years later. Renovation work was carefully planned to restore the building's fa?ades and the romantic interiors to their original splendour. With its 62 rooms (of wich 3 suites with whirlpool bathrooms), meeting room for 40 persons, panoramic roof garden and garage parking, the Mecenate Palace Hotel combines efficient service with a cordial personalised welcome.
