Hotel Torre del Remei in Bolvir - Spain

In 1905 a wealthy upper middle class Catalan asked the well-known architect Freixa de Llivia to build him a mansion as a gift for hls daughter Blanca. The Castle of Nuestra Senora del Remei was finished in 1910. Known tocthe local people in Catalan as the Torre del Remei, it takes its name from the Patron Saint of a nearby chapel, the Virgin 'del Remei'. In the beginning the estate was occupied by ten women, counting the staff, and acquired considerable prestige among the most prominent personalities of the time. Unfortunately, when the Civil War broke out in the 30'5, the occupants were moved down to Barcelona. During the war the property was expropriated by the Republican Government for use originally as a school, and later as a hospital. Luckily, the building was never looted or remodelled, and the structure was not tou- ched. Towards the end of the 80's, Loles and Josep-Maria Boix disco- vered the building and were stunned by its majestic beauty. As soon as they caught sight of it, they were overcome by the idea of converting it into a quiet hotel offering the highest levels of luxury and comfort. They got into contact with a major restora- tion team and three years later saw their project converted into reality. In 1991, the Torre del Remei opened its doors once more, but this time as a luxury hotel which year by year has been steadily winning the loyalty of its select clientele.
